Before we start diving into it, I must confess that Halloween is not really my favorite Holiday. All the darkness of it isn't really my vibe HAH. But since I had kids and moved to the US, I totally get the fun part of it specially when you can make it filled with cute spooky decorations, creative costumes, and, of course, deliciously themed meals (my favorite). This year, I decided to make a special Halloween dinner for my boys featuring pumpkin and bat-shaped ravioli paired with a warm and comforting tomato soup. It was a hit, and I’m excited to share all the details with you!
The Inspiration
Halloween is all about fun and creativity, and I wanted our dinner to reflect that. I found these adorable pumpkin and bat-shaped ravioli at COSTCO and immediately knew they would be the perfect centerpiece for our Halloween meal. Paired with a rich tomato soup, it made for a cozy and festive dinner that the kids absolutely loved.
The Menu
Appetizer: Ghostly Cheese and Crackers
To kick off the evening, I served a simple yet spooky appetizer of ghost-shaped cheese slices on crackers. It was a fun way to start the meal and get everyone in the Halloween spirit.
Main Course: Pumpkin and Bat-Shaped Ravioli with Tomato Soup
The main event was the pumpkin and bat-shaped ravioli served in a delicious tomato soup. Here’s how you can recreate this fun and tasty dish:
Ingredients:
1 package of pumpkin and bat-shaped ravioli (found COSTCO)
1 large can (28 oz) of crushed tomatoes
1 small can (6 oz) of tomato paste
4 cups of vegetable broth
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of dried basil
1 teaspoon of dried oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions:
Prepare the Tomato Soup: In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Add Tomatoes and Spices: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, vegetable broth, sugar, dried basil, and dried oregano. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Cook the Ravioli: While the soup is simmering, cook the pumpkin and bat-shaped ravioli according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Combine and Serve: Ladle the hot tomato soup into bowls and carefully add a few pieces of the cooked ravioli to each bowl. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
Dessert: Monster Eyeball Cookies
For dessert, we had a blast making monster eyeball cookies. Simply bake your favorite sugar cookies, then decorate them with colorful icing and candy eyeballs to create a spooky yet adorable treat.
The Experience
The joy on my boys' faces when they saw their dinner was priceless. The playful shapes of the ravioli made the meal exciting, and the hearty tomato soup was perfect for a cool October evening. The monster eyeball cookies were a fun and interactive way to end our Halloween dinner.
Creating themed dinners like this one is such a delight and a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays. I hope this inspires you to add a touch of Halloween magic to your own dinner table. If you try this recipe, be sure to share your spooky creations with me on social media. Happy Halloween!
Until next time, stay magical!
Love, Yandra
